Torpedo Bay Navy Museum
I was the Exhibitions Project Manager, Torpedo Bay Royal NZ Navy Museum, Auckland for its major re-development and opening in 2011. I directed and co-ordinated a small exhibition project team (writer, spatial designer and graphic designer) and museum staff to deliver an integrated permanent and changing exhibition program. The role managed the audience development, concept and content development, exhibition research, exhibition design and object and interactive media selection through to the exhibition installation.
Since its re-opening the facility has attracted well over 120,000 visitors a year (up from the 10,000 visitors who attended the previous museum annually). A major part of this new interest is expressed through repeat visitation.
This was a great opportunity for me to use a whole lot of skill I gained at Te Papa and take it to a whole new benchmark. Its not everyday you get a new museum redevelopment to manage and mould from a basic vision rooted in identity and context.
