Kemp House
I was commissioned to provide some interpretation for the Mission House in Kerikeri, specifically for the rear lower story which was occupied by visiting mission students and serving staff and at times provided a food store as well for the mission
The Mission House, also known as Kemp House, is a weatherboard clad, two-storey Georgian home dating from 1822. Its restrained interior provided the foundation for my design and I set about creating interpretation panels, portrait cupboards and collection displays that could provide some context and background for the few and significant Maori occupants of the rear rooms such as Rongo Hongi and Te Paea Hinerangi.
My budget was also very restrained so I re-adapted unused furniture to for display cabinets.
